Historic business centre celebrates

The Joiners Shop in The Historic Dockyard Chatham is celebrating its successful first year of operation - with 80% of its 44 units now occupied.
 
The 200-year old building is Grade II* listed and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It has a colourful history and its most recent incarnation is as a specialist Centre for Creative Industries. It opened in January 2009 and is already home to 38 businesses. read more

Minister tours Medway

Thames Gateway minister Shahid Malik MP visited Medway to see progress on key schemes in a regeneration programme now valued at £6 billion.
 
First stop was Medway Park, a training base for athletes in the run-up to the London 2012 Olympics and a regional centre of sporting excellence after the Games. The running track is ready, the sports hall under construction, the £11 million project ahead of schedule. read more

Medway Park, which is being created on the site of the former Black Lion Leisure Centre in Gillingham, will be completed in February 2010.
 
Just two months later it will host the Modern Pentathlon World Cub - the first global sporting event to ever be staged in Medway, featuring a host of world and Olympic medallists. read more
