90% of airlines "against new Thames Estuary airport"

Nine out of 10 airlines using Heathrow Airport are opposed to mayor of London Boris Johnson's plans to build a new airport in the Thames Estuary, a council has claimed. (Sourced from BBC News.)
 
The mayor has given his backing to a scheme, thought to cost £40 billion, to use an island off the south-east coast for a six-runway airport.
 
But Medway Council says 90% of airlines - including British Airways, Air France and Virgin Atlantic - are opposed. A spokesman for the mayor said they would consider the findings. read more

Traffic improvements on Medway City Estate to start in April

Work to improve traffic jams on a busy industrial estate will start in April.

Left-turn only lanes on the approaches to the Antonys Way and Sans Pareil roundabouts on the Medway City Estate were due to be set up in December but freezing weather conditions made it impossible. (Sourced from Kent Online).

Revised Chatham bus station design wins council approva

Chatham is to get a £5 million bus station paid for by the Homes and Communities Agency out of funds earmarked for Thames Gateway regeneration projects.

Medway Council last week gave planning permission for the project after designs were altered following public consultation to reduce the number of trees that must be felled to make way for it. (Sourced from Planning Resource.)

Council approves flats – through gritted teeth

Plans for a £14 million, 92-flat building at the former Ashbys Yard, on Wharf Road, were begrudgingly approved by borough councillors on Monday.

But they said the green light was only given because "their hands were tied behind their backs" and "they couldn't think of a legitimate planning reason to turn it down."(Sourced from thisiskent.)
