Wed 19 June 2019, 4:14 pm

Top music stars including Jess Glynne and BRIT Award winners Rudimental will be performing as part of a series of concerts at Rochester Castle next month.

The popular annual Castle Concerts event will feature drum and bass band Rudimental opening the four-day festival at the historic location.

They will bring their unique tracks to the castle with their Sound System set, which features a DJ set with live brass and vocals.

Joining them on the opening night are two special guests, including platinum-selling artist Example and fellow BRIT nominee, Mahalia.

On the second night of the concerts, Thursday, 11 July, singer-songwriter and BRIT nominee Jess Glynne is playing a sold-out gig with special guest, Nina Nesbitt.

American soul singer George McCrae will be joined by disco group Odyssey and Heather Small, previously lead singer of band M People on Friday, 12 July.

The Castle Concerts will conclude on Saturday with the Proms finale featuring the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performing a selection of James Bond movie themes, along with classical hits such as Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, Fantasia on British Sea Songs, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem.

They will be joined by musical theatre group and Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro and one of the biggest-selling classical artists this decade, soprano Laura Wright. The Kent Rock Choir will also be performing and interval entertainment will be provided by NChant, which is the senior girls' choir from The Rochester Grammar School.

Councillor Howard Doe, Medway Council’s portfolio holder for community services, said: “This year’s Castle Concerts offers a fantastic line-up of top musical talent and we’re delighted acts of this calibre will be visiting Rochester in July.

“The concerts are one of the highlights of the summer in Medway and offer a truly unique live music experience – located within the picturesque walls of Rochester Castle. The events have an intimate atmosphere where everyone is able to get close to the stage with a great view.”
