Sandra Matthews-Marsh, chief executive of Visit Kent, has welcomed Prime Minister David Cameronís endorsement of the key role tourism will play in driving forward economic recovery. (Sourced from Only Kent.)
Speaking in London, Mr Cameron stressed the importance of tourism to the economy stating that it is the third highest export earner with a huge domestic market Ė supporting 200,000 businesses contributing £115 billion to the British economy and employing nearly ten per cent of the workforce.

He said: “Tourism presents a huge economic opportunity driving new growth in the regions and helping to deliver the rebalancing of our national economy that is so desperately needed.”

Mrs Matthews-Marsh said: “Already tourism contributes more than £2.5 billion to the local economy of Kent and Medway supporting more than 50,000 jobs.

“And that is set to grow. All the most recent predictions show that, as an industry, tourism is set to grow faster than nearly any other sector alongside construction and retail. In Kent we are perfectly placed to benefit from that boost to rebuilding our communities.
