Rochester Riverside development agreement signed

by Marco Cillario Mon 10 April 2017, 5:00 pm

An agreement has been reached to build around 1,300 homes at Rochester Riverside, the parties involved have announced.

Countryside and The Hyde Group, selected as development partners in March 2016, will work with Medway Council and The Homes and Community Agency on the £400 million scheme on a 30-ha site by Rochester town centre.

The developers said 25% of new homes will be aimed at being affordable.

Countryside and Hyde will be the joint housebuilders, with Hyde also taking on the long-term management and maintenance of the homes allocated as affordable.  The design team will be led by HTA Design and btw partnership, as announced in April last year.

A new primary school, a nursery, leisure and healthcare facilities, workspace, two hotels and a series of retail units are part of the plans for the project.

Also included will be 4 ha of open space, with a 2.5 km riverside walkway.

Councillor Rodney Chambers, Medway Council’s portfolio holder for inward investment, strategic regeneration and partnership, said the agreement was a “really important step” for what he called the local authority’s “flagship regeneration project” to support the economic regeneration of Medway.

“This brings us closer to our vision of becoming a leading waterfront university city of 330,000 people,” he added.
