Hundreds of homes for Rainham

by Marco Cillario Wed 14 December 2016, 3:24 pm

Rainham could see up to 300 homes built after Medway Councilís planning committee gave the go-ahead to an application lodged by Persimmon Homes South East.

The outline planning permission, subject to conditions, is for a 10.75-ha site at Otterham Quay Lane.

Homes will range in sizes, types and tenures in buildings of up to three storeys. They will be able to accommodate up to 750 people.

The development will also feature 2.75 ha of public open space, including a 600sq m children’s play area, 5,500sq m of amenity space and 1,350sq m of allotments. This will be divided into a central space, at the main entrance to the site, a northern and a smaller southern space.

Permission was granted subject to the condition – among others – of 75 units being allocated as affordable – 60% affordable rent and 40% shared ownership – and contributions towards improving education, highways, health facilities, public realm, local community facilities, waste and recycling.
