An investment promotion agency has helped create 318 jobs in Medway in 2015-16.
Locate in Kent, funded and supported by the Kent Developers Group, Kent County Council and local councils including Medway, assisted five companies to invest in Medway in 2015-16.
One investor was a Swedish company, the other four are UK-based.
Three of the investors are in the high-value, high-growth sectors of financial services, environmental services and ICT, and accounted for 80% of the jobs created. Another is in the construction and property sector, and one in transport and logistics.
Locate in Kent offers companies a number of free corporate relocation services and helps businesses find premises in Kent and Medway.
It started 2015-16 with 300 active projects in the pipeline, 75 of which involved investors interested in Medway. Of these, 81% were from the UK and 19% from overseas – mainly the US and France.
Locate in Kent said that much of the interest in Medway was from the manufacturing, retail, wholesale, environmental technologies, construction and property sectors.
In total, the service successfully assisted 46 companies to invest in Kent and Medway last year, getting close to achieving 1,000 successful investments since it was set up in 1997.
The total jobs created or retained by the agency was 2,915, meaning it met its target for 2015-16.
Chairman of Locate in Kent David Fitzsimmons celebrated what he called “another successful year”.
He said: “It is particularly pleasing that so many of the investments and jobs were in high value, high growth sectors, so further new jobs can be expected in due course. They are also benefiting every part of Kent and Medway.
“This success would not be possible without the myriad of our public and private sector partners - this teamwork has been key.”
