New homes for Chatham

The first phase of a regeneration project at The Brook in Chatham will be completed on 14 March.
The Heart of Medway Housing Association scheme features 19 new homes on Eldon Street, which the company said will be available for affordable rent. The properties are a mix of two-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom apartments – and one of three phases of a development involving £12 million of investment and designed by architect btw partnership.
Built by Chartway Group, the homes replace a smaller number of prefabricated bungalows built after World War Two.
The next phase of the development, Great Lines Mews, due to hand over in April, consists of five one and two-bedroom apartments marketed as affordable rent and three two-bedroom houses for shared ownership, replacing a former garage site and featuring green living roofs, which can be seen from the Great Lines Heritage Park.
The third and final phase of the regeneration is also under way, with demolition of a former sheltered scheme in Cross Street. The largest part of the development, it will feature 50 new apartments, bringing the total across the Brook to 77 units.
The scheme will be built thanks to more than £300,000 of grant funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
