Council consults on Chatham

by James Renoux-Wood Thu 10 March 2016, 5:02 pm

Consultation sessions focused on Medway Councilís proposals to redevelop five areas of Chatham took place in January and February 2016, with a masterplan scheduled for the summer.

The local authority has been awarded £4 million of government funding to help regenerate the town; Chatham railway station, New Cut Junction, St John’s Square, Military Square and Military Road are the areas earmarked for development.

People with ties to the area attended the Chatham Placemaking Project, which ran at several locations in Chatham between Friday 15 January and Friday 5 February 2016.

The masterplan will focus on improving Chatham Waterfront civic space, which stretches from the River Medway and the waterfront pumping station towards the bus station, the paddock and the north-western entrance to the Pentagon shopping centre.

Work on the five areas is expected to start in 2016 and be completed in 2018.
