Barratt and Countryside have reached the final stage of Medway Councilís shortlisting process on its 30-ha Rochester Riverside project.
Five developers originally expressed interest in developing the site. The shortlisted companies will now submit design proposals to the council, with the successful candidate due to be announced in March 2016.
Medway Council and its partner, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), have already invested £90 million preparing the site, to ensure it is ready for immediate development.
Rochester Riverside is a mixed-use scheme including up to 1,400 homes fronting the River Medway. In addition to the homes, it will include public open spaces, a riverside walk, a new primary school, hotel, office space, shops and restaurants.
A new £26 million Rochester station is also due to be opened at Riverside in mid-December, as well as a council-run 325 space car park in spring 2016.
The council’s portfolio holder for regeneration Cllr Rodney Chambers said: “Rochester Riverside is the most important regeneration project anywhere along the Thames Gateway and once complete will provide a vibrant, modern destination which will compliment historic Rochester.”
