And then there were three

Medway Council has narrowed its list of potential developers from five to three for the Rochester Riverside scheme, though the names of the candidates have yet to be revealed.

The scheme is a residential-led mixed-use project comprising 21 hectares of land with a 2.5 km river frontage. The council’s development brief, adopted in September 2014, promotes the delivery of 1,400 new homes, commercial office and retail space, a hotel, restaurants, primary school, community facilities and accessible waterfront.

A key part of the development proposal is the relocation of Rochester railway station to a new site on the northern edge of Rochester Riverside. The new station will deliver longer trains and a more reliable service – and provide a new ‘gateway’ linking the station and Rochester High Street to the riverside.

The council is actively working with Network Rail to support the delivery of the new station, which is due to open in December 2015.
