Final catch at The Fishing Village

Wed 21 January 2015, 12:55 pm

Work will begin on building the last homes at The Fishing Village development on St Mary’s Island in Chatham this summer, 20 years after a planning application for the initial masterplan was submitted.

The last part of the project – Azure – will feature 300 homes, with a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and three to five-bedroom homes. Azure will be split into three phases – Parklands, The Docks and Water’s Edge.

The 60.7-ha island scheme is a joint venture between the Homes and Communities Agency and Countryside Maritime. It includes a school and church, community centre, doctor’s surgery and eight hectares of open space, where a number of purpose-built play areas have been created.

Chatham Maritime said homes at St Mary’s Island have attracted interest from first time buyers to downsizers.

Connections to London include trains to Stratford from the nearby Ebsfleet International station, which take 12 minutes. St Pancras station can be reached in 17.
