A children’s academy has opened in Chatham, Medway, which will eventually provide places for 720 students.
The New Horizons Children’s Academy will be managed by the Thinking Schools Trust and was created at the request of Medway Council to address a shortage of primary school places.
It will be based at the former Chatham South school, where £5.2 million of refurbishment and remodeling work has taken place in advance of a September opening, funded by the government’s Targeted Basic Need Growth Fund.
Medway Council’s deputy leader, Councillor Alan Jarrett, said: “This was very much a team effort with the council’s education team identifying the need for additional school places and working to secure the funding from the government.”
