Mon 27 January 2014, 3:47 pm

Independent housing group mhs homes has raised more than £6540 for two local charities by organising a 'sponsored sleep out' event to spread awareness about homelessness.

Participants included the mayor of Medway, Councillor Josie Isles, as well as members of the company and 65 residents. They spent a night on the streets by mhs homes' Chatham head office for the event, to create awareness about homelessness

Money was raised for Medway homelessness charity, Caring Hands in the Community, and the Kent Autistic Trust. The event has been running for 10 years.

Ashley Hook, chief executive of mhs homes, said: “This year’s sleep out was a resounding success, with a fantastic amount of money raised for our two local charities.

“This is the fifth sleep out I have been a part of; I am always touched by the kindness and generosity of all involved and this year was no exception.”
