Plans have been put forward for a pay-as-you-go public transport card to be put in use throughout Medway.
The card, which will work in a similar way to London’s Oyster system, will be trialled on Arriva Trains' transport services in Maidstone, located to the south of Medway, with the transport provider working in partnership with Kent County Council (KCC), Kent Online reported.
If the Maidstone pilot scheme is successful, it is expected that the service will be extended to the whole of the Medway borough and the rest of Kent, with other bus and train companies expressing support for the idea in a report submitted to county councillors.
The system is expected to cost £60,000, with the funding split between KCC and Medway Council.
