Gillingham company starts rise 5%

The number of new companies formed in Gillingham increased by five per cent in the first quarter of 2013, compared with the same period last year.
Business research firm Duport said 160 new companies were registered in the town during the first three months of this year, the highest level ever recorded during a first quarter.
Duport managing director Peter Valaitis said Gillingham’s share of UK companies increased during the period, as did its share of both female directors and young directors.
He said that the positive statistics could be linked to the development of Gillingham Waterfront, which will deliver a mix of commercial and residential development in a key location close to the Medway Tunnel on the northern bypass.
“The statistics in our first-quarter report for Gillingham suggest trading conditions in the area may be improving, which bodes well for the year ahead and beyond,” he said.
