Service helps a thousand people into work

by Jim Dunton Tue 18 June 2013, 2:48 pm

A Medway Council service aiming to help people overcome barriers to employment has notched up its thousandth success.

Employ Medway opened up in High Street, Chatham, in September 2009, with a brief to give local job seekers better support than was then available.

Councillor Jane Chitty, borough economic growth lead, said the milestone figure was a source of great pride for the service.

“We are dedicated to supporting growth in Medway to create employment and help businesses thrive,” she said.

“We will continue to do all we can to help Medway residents who are looking for employment.

“Our range of business loans, grants, additional one-to-one support, access to workplace training and continued commitment to apprenticeships is testimony to this.”

The human face of Employ Medway’s milestone is 20-year-old Josef Williams, who was helped to get work as a cleaner and now hopes to set up his own business.
