Chatham's Historic Dockyard is gearing up to host one of Kent's biggest industrial shows - the Manufacturing and Engineering Expo 2013.

The 10 July event, produced in partnership with Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, is providing space for more than 60 major firms to showcase their products, know-how, and career opportunities.

Among them will be BAE Sytems’ electronic systems division and the University of Greenwich, both backers of Medway’s new University Technical College.

Councillor Jane Chitty, Medway’s strategic development and economic growth lead, said the event would highlight local manufacturing and engineering excellence.

“It's also a wonderful opportunity for young people to recognise career opportunities and to learn from one another the benefits of careers in engineering and manufacturing,” she said.

According to Medway Council, manufacturing and engineering provides 10 per cent of jobs in the borough, contributing an annual £630 million to the local economy.
