A new outdoor gym, part of the Olympic legacy, has opened in Chatham.
The new gym – based at the Maidstone Road Sports Ground – has equipment suitable for adults and children, including a ski machine, recumbent bikes, cross trainers, leg press, leg bench, shoulder press and basketball hoops.
The mayor of Medway, Vaughan Hewett, officially opened the gym in June, along with a group of pupils from New Road School, Chatham who tried out the equipment with the help of students from MidKent college.
This flagship scheme, offering free, comprehensive exercise facilities, carries the London 2012 branding, as a legacy of this year’s Olympic games.
Medway Council’s portfolio holder for community services Howard Doe said: “We’re committed to helping all our residents to enjoy a healthy lifestyle, and this is a wonderful free facility where people of all ages can get together and enjoy keeping fit in the fresh air, and which we hope will be well used for many years to come."
The outdoor gym cost £55,000 and has been funded through planning obligation agreements and contributions from member’s priority budgets.
