Council signs housing provision pledge

Thu 19 July 2012, 5:39 pm

Medway Council has become one of the first in the country to sign a nationally recognised pledge to provide high-quality repairs and accountability to its tenants.

The council's landlord services department has signed a new Chartered Institute of Housing repairs charter.

The charter – launched in Manchester in June and sponsored by Mears Group – is a framework for improvement, based on a self-assessment approach. Residents, a repairs forum and a scrutiny panel will all be involved in the assessment of the service.

Medway Council’s portfolio holder for community services Howard Doe said: “By signing up to this charter, Medway Council is making a promise to its tenants that it will deliver an excellent repairs service.

“Tenants and customers will benefit from homes and neighbourhoods that are well maintained, and will benefit from services that are high quality but cost effective.

“This is a positive move and one that I hope everyone will work together to achieve.”
