Medway’s first academy school has marked a key milestone on its journey to opening in the summer.
Pineapple Dance Studios founder Debbie Moor was the guest of honour at the ceremony to mark the completion of external building works at Strood Academy.
The facility will be one of three academy projects in Medway, with work also underway at the Bishop of Rochester Academy and Brompton Academy.
Medway Council’s portfolio holder for children’s services Les Wicks, said: “This is a significant and incredibly exciting time for everyone involved with the academy, particularly those who have watched this building take shape over the past year.
“There is little doubt that, when complete, the new building will provide 21st century teaching facilities that staff, students and the community will benefit from and now we can see for certain what a great building this will be.”
The school will have an internal area of more than 14,000sq metres, and will include six science laboratories, a dance studio, drama studio and fitness suite, an all-weather pitch for hockey and football, a sixth form centre, library and seminar spaces and dedicated special education needs facilities.
