Consultation begins on vocational college
Thu 5 January 2012, 2:31 pm
Medway residents are being asked if they want the area to be home to one of the country’s first university technical colleges (UTC).
The colleges are being set up by the government to provide vocational and academic training for 14-18 year olds.
The proposed facility in Medway would specialise in construction and engineering, and would be sponsored by the University of Greenwich, MidKent College, Medway Council and local employers.
Local employers would provide practical training with the funding for the UTC coming from central government.
A number of sites in Medway are being considered for the new UTC including an unused block at Brompton Barracks (pictured).
Residents can say what they think about this proposal by filling in a simple survey on Medway Council's website at www.medway.gov.uk/medwayutc.
