Medway Council has spend £45,000 on artwork to make empty shop units appear as if they are fully-stocked.
The "virtual shops" have are located in Rainham, Chatham High Street, Strood, Parkwood and Twydall. More are planned for Gillingham, Watling Street and Strood.
The council's regeneration director, Robin Cooper, said:"We are always looking at innovative ways to put empty shops into use and this project, funded by central government, is helping to brighten up shopping areas, where empty, unsightly shops would otherwise have a negative effect on neighbouring businesses.
