Business leaders reject 'Boris Island' airport idea

Sun 23 January 2011, 4:11 pm

Business leaders and councils say that London mayor Boris Johnson should look at expanding existing airports in Kent rather than creating a new island airport in the Thames Estuary.

Jo James, chief executive of Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce, said there was strong local opposition to Johnson's idea of an island airport sitting in the middle of the river estuary.

James said existing small airports at Manston and Lydd airports were cheaper options which would help the local economy.
