No 1 Smithery opens at Chatham Historic Dockyard

A new museum that gives a boss "goosebumps" is set to boost revenue and visitors at Chatham Historic Dockyard. (Sourced from Kent Online.)
 
No 1 Smithery, a joint venture between Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust, the National Maritime Museum and the Imperial War Museum, houses some 4,000 ship models and marine paintings that have been hidden away for years. read more

Environmental boost for Medway

The opening of the new Holborough Marshes nature reserve in Snodland back in May is helping Medway’s ambition to become a green urban destination.
 
The site is owned by Lafarge Cement and managed by Kent Wildlife Trust, and has received funding from Valley of Visions Landscape Partnership Scheme, Lafarge, Heritage Lottery Fund and Natural England. read more

Work to start on lower Gillingham development

Work is set to begin on the MHS Homes development in Gillingham, with the demolition of the former Four Brothers pub.
 
The site was purchased back in March 2010 and nine flats are to be built as part of the scheme, which is being delivered in partnership with Medway Council, The Chartway Group and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
 
Emma Riddington, head of development at MHS Homes said: "The new homes are situated in a sought after area of Gillingham with easy road and rail network links over the county and to London. read more

Residents consulted over transport plans

Medway residents are being asked for their opinions on the future of the area’s transport provision.
 
Over the next 12 weeks Medway Council is seeking feedback on the new Local Transport Plan (LTP), which runs from 2011 to 2026.
 
A series of exhibitions will be held in libraries and shopping centres from July to September this year, where people can give their thoughts on public transport services, cycle routes, public footpaths and what can be done to improve congestion and access to services. read more
